The theme for this year’s Winter Feast will be “Keep Calm and Carry On’. This slogan is, of course, mainly associated with World War II. We are stretching things a teensy bit since, very significantly, 2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the end of World War i. Our Feast songs will not only acknowledge this event, but will reflect a whole gamut of emotions – happy, sad, angry, tender – which we think fit our theme. We have not yet set precise dates (but it will be no earlier than late July). Be on the look out for further information.
The Yallourn Madrigal Singers is a mixed voice (SATB) community choir, now in its 62nd year. Our members live throughout the Latrobe Valley (in Gippsland, Victoria, Australia), especially in Traralgon, Morwell and Moe and surrounding areas, although we have had members from as far away as Sale and Warragul.
We perform a varied repertoire of songs and musical styles, ranging from medieval and renaissance songs to contemporary ones. We perform at events such as our annual winter feast (held at a local restaurant), music festivals, eisteddfods, soirees, public events, and at Christmas concerts and Carol Services.
The choir welcomes new singers! We rehearse every Thursday evening from 7:30 – 10 p.m. at St. James Church, Grey Street, Traralgon, Victoria, 3844. The choir is not auditioned although a voice assessment may be made by the Co-Directors of Music to determine your voice range. Sight reading is a definite advantage, but not compulsory. A 6 week probation period is given.
